Tank Cleaning / Disposal

PCB Disposal has drained, decontaminated and disposed of numerous above-ground and below-ground storage tanks.

Above Ground Storage Tanks
PCB Disposal can remove and dispose of any above-ground, bulk liquid storage tank including disposal of its contents which have included oils, askarels, acids, alkali, solvents, sludges, gasoline, diesel fuel, etc. Large tanks can be cut down to size to facilitate removal from sub-basements and other inaccessible locations within buildings. Tanks are tested prior to disposal at our metal recycling facility. PCB personnel are trained in confined space entry, use of self-contained breathing apparatus and other personal protective equipment as the job dictates and all are trained in the CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation) technique.

Below Ground Storage Tanks
PCB Disposal has had a great deal of experience removing underground storage tanks contaminated with a multitude of different waste types. Tanks are first tested to confirm the contents and it's physical and chemical characteristics, and the tank is drained completely, prior to it's removal. As part of our site service package, we provide disposal of any contents collected except radioactive, pathological or explosive wastes. As part of our comprehensive service package, we also sample the ground under the tank for contamination that often occurs from leakage or over-filling and we can provide complete remediation services to restore the site to it's original state.

Tank Cleaning
When fixed tanks and tanker trucks that are used for bulking or transporting solvents, fuels and oils become contaminated with PCBs it is usually accidental.

The most common cause of contamination of bulked liquids is due to collection of waste oils from several locations. It only takes one location where a few litres of askarel liquid inadvertently gets added to several thousand litres of non-PCB oil. It would only take 5 litres of askarel at a PCB concentration of 300,000 ppm PCBs to contaminate a 25,000 litre tanker of clean oil to > 50 ppm, the concentration that redefines it as a “PCB Waste”.

Over the past several years, PCB Disposal has decontaminated several tanks and tanker trucks that accidentally became contaminated with PCBs

Important Notes:

PCB and non-PCB disposal projects are evaluated on a case-by-case basis and all issues are taken into account when determining the final costs involved.
