Mineral Oil Transformers![]() Reclassification to Non-PCB Status Mineral oil transformers contaminated with PCBs can either be disposed of following draining, or if they have any life expectancy, can be reclassified to non-PCB status by retrofilling. Disposal of Mineral Oil Transformers PCB Disposal can dispose of any PCB-contaminated mineral oil transformer regardless of its size or location. We have a wide selection of transportation vehicles available for moving the carcasses to the transfer station. See "PCB Transportation" for more information. "Mineral Oil Transformer Reclassification and Disposal" (PDF) Important Notes: The new federal PCB Regulations published in the Canada Gazette Sept 17/08 require that all in-service PCB-contaminated mineral oil transformers > 500 ppm PCBs be replaced or reclassified to non-PCB status by Dec 31, 2009. Any PCB-contaminated mineral oil transformers > 50 ppm and < 500 ppm PCBs that are located at sensitive sites such as
PCB Disposal provides clients with credits for transformers that are < 50 ppm (non-PCB) and depending on whether they have copper or aluminum cores. Also depending on the PCB concentration ( 0 – 49 ppm), we may provide a rebate for transformer mineral oil. PCB and non-PCB disposal projects are evaluated on a case-by-case basis and all issues are taken into account when determining the final costs involved. |
