Dr. Smith received his Ph.D. degree in Biology (Environmental Toxicology) from the University of Waterloo in 1977 and immediately began a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in the Environmental Secretariat of the National Research Council in Ottawa.

After NRC, he spent five years in the Chemical Industry as a Research and Regulatory officer with Eli Lilly and later with Velsicol Chemical Corporation of Chicago.

He later went to work at the University of Toronto’s “Institute for Environmental Studies” for a year working on a World Health Organization project on “Classification and Disposal Technologies for Hazardous Wastes and Chemical Pesticides”.

Following a two and half year employment term with PPM Canada as Director of Sales and Marketing, he started PCB Disposal Inc. a full-service PCB management company in 1987 and he continued as President of the company until Sept 2009.

In the fall of 2009, PCB Disposal was purchased by the Quebec-based environmental company “Sanexen Environmental Services Inc.”, and Dr. Smith was appointed Vice-President of Business Development. He continues in that capacity to this day.
