PCB Disposal has worked with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment

Over the years, PCB Disposal has conducted a number of studies aimed at providing information to assist with development of provincial PCB management and disposal guidelines:

Examining shredding and oil washing as a technique for decontaminating cores from mineral oil transformers

Monitoring PCB levels in transformers to determine the rate and extend of leaching of PCBs from cores of mineral oil transformers following draining and retrofilling. These studies established the “10% leach back rule”.

Documenting activities employed by scrap metal facilities receiving obsolete transformers under the Ron Gotts rule which permitted transformers < 500 ppm and 500 gallons to be drained and disposed of as non-PCB units. This practice was discontinued since mishandling of transformers lead to contamination of the scrap dealers’ yards.

PCB Disposal Firsts

PCB Disposal has been a pioneer in PCB management over the years and has several firsts to our credit.

First to use modified ISO shipping containers for storing PCB wastes equipped with secondary spill containment;

First to design special PCB containers for the MOE for bulk storage of PCB contaminated soil;

First to design 8-drum containers for Ontario Hydro;

First to design special containers for storing flammable PCB-contaminated solvents for Ontario Hydro (containers equipped with spark-resistant, corrosion-proof grating, smoke detectors, external alarms, fire suppression system);

First to introduce mobile PCB chemical destruction technology to Ontario;
