DISPOSAL OF OUT-OF-SERVICE OIL & ASKAREL TRANSFORMERS

Transformer Disposal |
| |
|
| Drained
askarel transformers received at our transfer station are re-drained
when they arrive to ensure all liquid is collected and disposed
of by incineration. The transformers carcasses are first solvent-cleaned
using a proprietary process and then the cores and coils are
removed for incineration. All recovered metals (steel, copper)
are subjected to the requisite regulatory wipe testing to confirm
PCB residues are less than 10 µg/100 cm² prior to
being sent to a metal recycling facility. Transformer tanks
are decontaminated by the solvent-washing procedure and the
porous, non-recyclable core components are disposed of by incineration. |

Oil Transformer Disposal |

| Drained
oil transformers are received at our transfer station where
the units are re-drained. The cores are then removed and placed
in the incinerator on-site. The copper and other recoverable
metals are tested to confirm PCB residues meet the government's
established criterion of less than 10 µg/100 cm²
and following confirmation are sent to a metal recycling facility.
All PCB-contaminated oil residues are collected to a bulk tank
and are subsequently incinerated or chemically decontaminated
using the sodium process. |

| Disposal
of Other Electrical Equipment |
| |
|
| Various
other obsolete electrical equipment contaminated with PCBs,
including circuit breakers, PILC cables, potheads, rectifiers,
switches, ballasts, diffusion pumps, compressors, x-ray units,
etc. are incinerated and the recoverable metals are sent to
a nearby facility for recycling following confirmation that
PCB residues meet the government's decontamination criterion. |
